about

“Lyratastic” is my celebration of the bizarre LYRA 8 Organismic Synthesizer.

With 16 conductive touch pads instead of a keyboard, and vintage delay and overdrive modules instead of a filter, the LYRA uses 8 analog oscillators and a variety of FM modulation routings to create its sometimes plaintive, sometimes industrial, and sometimes outright alien sounds.

Combined here with a Hagström Viking Deluxe Baritone guitar on “Vikingland”, Roland’s mythical Juno 106 from 1984 on “Junoland”, Venus Theory’s ‘Volitions’ on “Industrial Orchestral”, and Sonuscore’s ‘Elysion’ and Sonic Atoms’ ‘Baltic Shimmers’ on “Disgruntled Lifeforms”, the LYRA 8 alternately underpins and leads these otherworldly melodies.

With a combination of samples from Chinese electronic music duo FM3’s 'Buddha Machines' retro solid state playback devices, the LYRA 8 beckons us on a dreamlike New York night time adventure in “Rob Pajamas”, before coming to the fore with only the reverberations from a vast abandoned underground storage tank to accompany it in the 28-minute closing longform drone of “Megacistern”.

I hope you’ll enjoy listening to this strange synth as much as I do!

Peace!
